Special E-News: A Message from the Mayor 

Good Afternoon,
I’d like to give you an update on things happening in the Village at this time.  We have closed our public buildings including the Sports Complex and Village Fitness Center to non-essential services to maintain the health of our staff so that they can continue to provide essential services to our residents.  Administrative services will continue to be offered in a limited capacity by phone and email.  Vital records will continue to be available at Village Hall by appointment.  There will be no reduction in public safety services.  I will be sending out periodic messages via phone and the Village e-news during this time to keep our residents informed of current information we have available to us.

If you are voting tomorrow and normally vote at Spring Meadows your polling place has been moved to the Lake County Planning Facility at 500 W. Winchester Road.  If you normally vote at Lambs Farm your polling location has been changed to Oak Grove School.  At this time all other polling places will remain in their normal locations.  However, we recommend you view the Lake County Clerk’s webpage prior to going out to vote due to a shortage of election judges.

We ask that you continue to support our local businesses during this time.  The Governor has ordered all restaurants and bars closed until the end of the month.  However, most of our local restaurants will be able to provide drive-through or curbside pickup.  A list of restaurants and their services are listed at libertyvilledining.com.  Please also consider adding a tip to your order since many of these employees are minimum wage earners who rely on tips to pay their day-to-day expenses.   If you’re not able to use carryout please consider purchasing gift cards at this time for use at a later date so that our local businesses can meet their payroll.  This includes all of our local businesses, not just restaurants.   Our community businesses are also listed on the Village website under our Business Directory tab and most of the businesses have their own website where you can purchase items.  We will also be posting closings as we are aware of them on our website.

If you’ve been listening to the news you’re aware of shortages at the grocery stores.  I have spoken with the managers of both Jewel and Sunset Foods and they continue to get regular deliveries.  Please do not try to stock up on items that will prevent our other residents from obtaining food and sanitary items they may need immediately.

With many people unable to work for this period the food banks will be needing your help.  They need canned goods, paper products and personal items.  They also accept cash donations as perishables are purchased from the Northern Illinois Food Bank.  Food donations for the Libertyville Township Food Pantry can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Township Office.  At this time the food pantries at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Lawrence Episcopal Church and First Presbyterian Church also remain open.  The days and times for the food pantries are available on our website.

I have had a number of people offer to help at this time.  We are working to connect volunteers with places in need when possible while making sure that we follow the CDC guidelines for social distancing.  Thank you to all of those who have offered to help.
