Did you Know..? You Can Compost Chocolates and Flowers!

Show the planet some love this Valentine's Day by composting leftover chocolates and wilted flowers!

Many chocolates (without wrappers) and natural flowers are compostable, as well as other Valentine's desserts such as strawberries and cake. Composting these materials ensures they will break down into nutrient-rich soil instead of ending up in a landfill. Be sure to remove any plastic, ribbons, or synthetic decorations before composting. When backyard composting, break your chocolate down into pieces and bury it low in your pile.

Celebrate sustainably and let your Valentine's treats give back to the earth!

Stormwater Quality Program Open House

The Village is hosting a public open-house event regarding its efforts in promoting water quality through the storm sewer MS4 Program. The Open House will be held on Thursday, February 27 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, in the Village Hall Board Room, 118 W. Cook Avenue, Libertyville, IL 60048. Engineering Division staff will be available to discuss the Village's implementation of its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Program. The Village's MS4 Program is based on the requirements established by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and consists of a plan to control and reduce pollution from stormwater runoff discharged through the Village’s storm drains. The public meeting is an opportunity for the public to learn more and provide feedback regarding the Village’s MS4 program, or learn more about ways they can do their part to reduce pollution to the stormwater system.
