May 14th Committee of the Whole - Draft Master Stormwater Plan

The Village Board of Trustees will once again be discussing the draft Master Stormwater Management Plan at the May 14 Committee of the Whole. In response to the discussion that occurred at the April 9, 2019 Village Board meeting the Village requested Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (“CBBEL”) to provide additional analysis of the possible use of open space in Nicholas Dowden Park within the Highlands subdivision area. During the May 14 meeting representatives from CBBEL will present their findings.

The Committee of the Whole meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Village Hall and will start at 6:30 PM and end promptly at 8:00 PM to begin the Village Board meeting. Committee of the Whole is a workshop style meeting for the Village Board, if time permits public comment may be taken.

It is anticipated that the draft Master Stormwater Management Plan will be placed on the May 28 Regular Board meeting agenda for consideration, unless additional supplemental information is requested.

Lake County Forest Preserve Native Plant Sale

The Lake County Forest Preserve will be hosting a native plant sale at Independence Grove on Saturday, May 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Purchase native flowers and woody plants, a rain barrel, or a compost bin. Household Chemical Waste

The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) is hosting a household chemical waste collection event on Saturday, May 18 at the Vernon Hills Metra Train Station located at Route 45 and Ranney Avenue from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Visit www.swalco.org or call 847-336-9340 to learn more regarding accepted materials.

Tobacco 21

On April 7, 2019 Illinois became the eighth state in the nation and the first in the Midwest to raise the minimum legal sales age to 21 for all tobacco products. The new law will affect all tobacco retailers and residents in Illinois and will go into effect on July 1. Many municipalities have adopted Tobacco 21 local laws. As a non-home rule (population under 25,000) community the Village of Libertyville was unable to adopt its own Tobacco 21 Ordinance but will be subject to the State law when it goes into effect on July 1.
